Current State Of Affairs

This year there was almost no NFL season due to The NFL lockout. It started this year and went from March 11th to July 25th. What the lockout means is that the players were on strike. There was dispute between the players and the owners of the teams not the coaches. A big part of it was the owners wanting more from players without good reasons. They wanted to add more games to the schedule so they could make more money but the player’s salaries would decrease and the risk of injury would increase. They also wanted to pay the players less money due to loss of income, but the owners did not provide evidence of lost income. The more the lockout lasted the more Americans began to worry and worry about an NFL season. Roger Goodell announced football was back July 25th. Teams began to work right away on training camps getting as much in as possible since the coaches were not allowed to contact the players during the lockout. You can see how the lockout has affected different players. Tim Tebow being one of them. His mechanics did not get better in the offseason like he wished they would of and a new head coach’s offense has put him in a tough situation. Other players that have been affected are wide receivers like Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. They were without the starting quarterback last season for most of the year and now that he is back thy must adjust. Today the NFL is heading into weak seven. Teams that have been surprising the league are the Buffalo Bills, and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bills have been winning games and have beaten Tom Brady and the Patriots and are battling against them for first place in their division. And the Eagles whom were announced the team dream for this year have been on the losing side. They started the season at 1-4. These are few of the many surprises that appear every year in the NFL.

Background Bloq

The NFL has change the lives of many individuals, groups, and our country itself.  The NFL has existed since 1920, in other words a long time. Like everything that has been around for a long time problems come up. The longer it has been around the more problems start to come up. One of the most current issues in the NFL has been the Lockout.  Other issues that start to come up are players and substance use, players and arrest, and rule changes to keep players healthy. Every year the NFL comes up with rule changes. Some are great and others suck. Some people argue that it’s starting to become less and less football. With all these issues going on the NFL still gives back to the communities. The longer it has been around the more it finds different ways. One thing that they do is done thorough the whole of October. Since it is breast cancer awareness month players wear pink and raffle the gear for support. The NFL is always finding ways to make the United States a better country that it already is.

NFL - National Football Leauge

  1. Hello fellow classmates, how are you? For my blog subject I chose the National Football League. The National Football League has been around since 1922. It has become America’s sport and a thing of our culture. A lot of things have changed since then; teams, names, rules, etc. Today there are 32 pro teams divided into two conferences, the AFC and the NFC. The regular season is a 16 game schedule teams with the best records advance to the play offs and The Super Bowl is played between the best AFC team and NFC. The reason I chose this subject is I love football and it is something that will keep me entertained all of the semester. Another reason is because Football has become part of the American culture. Three questions I want to explore about the NFL are, percentage of players that use performance enhancers. Second, how the NFL gives back to the communities that support them, and third, how is the NFL governed.
